50/50 Sidewalk Program

The City of Hoopeston has initiated a 50/50 Sidewalk Improvement Program for property owners within the City limits who wish to replace a deteriorated sidewalk in need of repair located around their property. The City would be responsible to tear out the old sidewalk.  The Council approved bidding contractor will complete the construction of the sidewalk and handicap ramps where required. The property owner will pay 1/2 the cost per square foot to install a new sidewalk and 1/2 the cost per square foot to install handicap ramps where required. The City will match the amounts and pay 1/2 the cost per square foot to install the new sidewalk and 1/2 the cost per square foot to install handicap ramps where required.  The property owner’s portion must be paid before work can begin.

A property owner who wishes to participate in this program must fill out the application form in its entirety that is provided via the link below. A property owner may also pick an application form up at City Hall, 301 W Main St. The application form may be turned in at City Hall between the hours of 8 am-3 pm, Monday-Thursday and 8 am-1 pm, Friday. The City Street and Alley Department will review the application form and the property owner will be contacted with an approval or denial.  If approved, the estimate is only good for 30 days.

If you have questions, please contact the Street and Alley Department through City Hall at 217-283-6231

Thank you,
Street and Alley Department
